The impressive Sierra Nevada protects Almuñecar against the cold winds of the North. That permits the culture of tropical fruits as kiwis, banana and mangos, which is unique in Europe. All this makes this city with its 30.000 inhabitants famous for its hospitality and cordiality. It is the ideal place for you to study and enjoy the tropical sun. With the influence of the tropical environement, the Spanish courses take place in Almuñecar in the pleasant atmosphere of a neverending vacation. Even the winters here are sunny so it may also be very appealing to come and forget about the cold and snow while studying under a palm-tree. Your learning progress will be surprising with the help of our competent team of native speaking teachers and the efficient teaching methods and modern educative materials. The school, being rather small, creates a very inviting, familiar atmosphere and is characterized by personal contact.

Founded in 1992, the centre is a Spanish school devoted exclusively to the teaching of Spanish as a foreign language. Located on the beautiful and unique Tropical Coast of Granada, with average temperatures ranging between 20ºC in winter and 30ºC in summer, the town is easily accessible from the Granada, Malaga and Almeria international airports.

The school is situated in the heart of Almuñécar's old town and pedestrian precinct. We are only a minute's walk from the beach, shops, restaurants and bars, and close to the accommodation we offer.

Spanish Courses

GENERAL INFORMATION AND STARTING DATES

There is no inscription fee for our courses.
Our courses start on any Monday, any level, except for the Teacher Training courses.
Every class has a duration of 45 minutes.
The classes take place from Monday to Friday, except bank holidays: 2008: 1st January, 7th January, 28th February, 21st March, 1st May, 15th August, 13th October, 8th December, plus two local holidays: 28th March and 24th June.
The classes will be timetabled either in the morning or in the afternoon, allowing for a lunch hour for participants staying with families with full board.
The classes will be carried out entirely in Spanish from the first day for every language level.
The school provides the participants (as a loan service) with all the necessary teaching manuals during the course.
The maximum number of participants per class is 8 (or 10 from June to September) and the minimum, 2. If this minimum is not reached on the first day of his / her course, the participant will be notified and other alternatives offered (e.g. a reduction of hours but one-to-one), always meeting his / her level and needs and without any extra cost.
On the first day of the course participants will take a placement test to determine their command of Spanish grammar and conversation and vocabulary.
At the end of the course every participant will receive the TC Languages Attendance Certificate.
The courses are completed with a daily programme of Recreational and Cultural Activities and Excursions.

This course has 2 classes of communicative grammar and 2 classes of vocabulary and conversation, with oral and writing practice, covering the linguistic skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing).

Intensive Course 25 hours week Reduced groups

5 classes / day
With 2 classes of communicative grammar; 2 classes of vocabulary and conversation, with oral and writing practice; and 1 extra class of grammar review or communicative practice with new vocabulary and expressions. All the 4 skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing) are covered in the course.
Levels: All.

Superintensive Spanish Course 30 lessons / week

6 classes / day
This course has 2 classes of communicative grammar; 2 classes of vocabulary and conversation, with oral and writing practice; and 2 extra classes of grammar review or communicative practice with new vocabulary and expressions.
All the 4 skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing) are covered in the course.
Levels: All.
Starting Dates: Any Monday, throughout the year.

Preparatory Courses for Diploma de Español como Lengua Extranjera (D.E.L.E.)

The Diplomas de Español como Lengua Extranjera (DELE) are official certificates, which prove the Spanish competence and command, given by Instituto Cervantes on behalf of the Spanish Ministry of Education and Science. There are three levels: DELE Beginner, Intermediate and Proficiency level.
IMSOL offers preparatory courses for the Diplomas de Español como Lengua Extranjera (D.E.L.E.) exams. This course has 5 classes / day specifically centred in familiarizing participants with the 5 different tests involved in the exam:
Oral Expression
Reading Comprehension
Use of Language
Writing
It is necessary that participants have already approximately the level of the exam they wish to do If not, the school will inform about the best option for them
(Examination charges are not included in the price of the course but we can arrange the papers for the inscription and provide participants with all the information about the dates and time of the different exams, etc. because we are a FEDELE Granada centre, organizer of DELE of Instituto Cervantes in this city).
Levels: B1, C1 and C2.

Combined Course (20 group classes + 5 individual classes / week)

4 classes in a group and 1 individual class / day
This course has 4 classes / day in a group (2 classes of communicative grammar and 2 classes of vocabulary and conversation, with oral and writing practice) plus 1 individual class per day where the contents are "tailor made" to meet the participants' learning needs and preferences.
All the 4 skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing) are covered on the course.

Accommodation

General Conditions for the accommodation:
There is no an extra fee to the accommodation price.
A week's stay begins on the Sunday before the start of the course and ends on the Saturday immediately after the course ends.
Supplements:
Extra Nights: The price for extra nights (arrival before or departure after the established dates) depends on the type of accommodation.
Accompanying Person: It is possible to come with an "accompanying person", who does not wish to take part in any course but does require accommodation. This person will pay for their chosen accommodation plus + an extra (see price list) and can take part in all the extra activities organized by the school.
Arrival time: From 16.00 h
Departure time: Before 12.00 h
Every participant will receive all the necessary bed linen but not towels or soap.
The average distance from the apartments to our school is about 5 minutes on foot.

Apartment Host Family

Half Board includes two meals: breakfast, lunch or dinner.
Full Board includes three meals: breakfast, lunch and dinner.

You can choose one of the options above in single or double room.
One wash of clothes per week is included.
It is necessary to include in the enrolment form information about any allergies suffered, nutritional habits, whether or not you are a smoker etc.

Our apartments are fully equipped:

Bedrooms have a bed, wardrobe, table and chair. They can be single or double (for people coming together).

Common areas: Living room; Kitchen with fridge, washing machine, cooker/stove; Bathroom.

Keys: You must pick up your keys from Hotel Carmen. We will send you a map via e-mail of Almuñécar with Hotel Carmen and your apartment address clearly marked on it.

Activities

ACTIVITIES INCLUDED IN THE COURSE PRICE Guided tour

On Mondays there is a guided tour of the town or surrounding areas in which we will discover curious details about the history and the legends surrounding the origin of the town, for example, visit to the historical centre, the Botanical Gardens: Parque del Majuelo and archeological site (F ábrica de Salazón), the Tropical Valley, etc.

Welcome parties in a bar on the beach in summer time.

Workshops on music, cinema, phonetics, Spanish and Latin-American History, Culture and Literature etc.

Debates and activities on current affairs.

Group Projects and presentations on topics of interest.

Every week we offer 2 different levels of Language Tutorials about situational language such as "At the Airport", "At the Shopping Centre",etc. and about grammar where we deal with the most difficult points of the Spanish language:"Ser y Estar", "Prepositions", "Por y Para", "When to use which Past Tense", etc.

Sport Activities in summertime: beachvolley, badminton, etc.

ACTIVITIES NOT INCLUDED IN THE COURSE PRICE Beach Volley

Visits to some museums, monuments and shows which you have to pay for, with a guide of the school. Granada: Visit to the Alhambra and Generalife; Visit to the House-Museum García Lorca in Huerta de San Vicente and in Fuente Vaqueros and to the House-Museum Manuel de Falla; Visit to the Royal Chapel and the Cathedral; La Zambra Museum; Flamenco shows; etc.

Tapas' Tour: This is the most popular activity among students. Granada province is well-known all over the world for its tapas; it is not only a tradition, but also a way of life. Students will go to different bars, where for each drink you can taste one tapa for free (for example: a portion of tortilla española, potatoes, fish, meat in different styles, etc.). In this activity, students will pay for what they drink.
International dinners: We organize dinners in which both students and teachers will cook a traditional dish of their country or region. Everyone will taste different dishes and share traditions and recipes in SPANISH.
Cooking Workshops: In which y Tapas ou can learn how to cook the main dishes of the Spanish cookery and then enjoy tasting them together.
